“The man who removes a mountain begins by carrying away small stones” William Faulkner
|
Every year I go kayaking with friends on Lake Superior. It is extremely desolate but incredibly beautiful. Most of the time it is rainy and cold, the water is freezing and you are harassed by bugs that make life miserable. The incredible surroundings doing something you love with people you care about creates incredible experiences. Because I'm doing the Camino this year, I couldn't participate. In preparation for my Camino later this year they collected this collection of "foot" shaped pebbles to take with me.
They will be used to fulfill one of the traditions of the Camino. You are to carry a stone from home and leave it on the highest spot of the Camino at Cruz Ferro. Carrying a stone is a symbolic representation of our sins. Like the stone which was rolled away at his resurrection, we can symbolically cast away our sins.
One of my main motivations for doing the Camino is to form closer bonds with everybody that surrounds me. I will ask my closest friends and family to if I may carry a stone for them. I hope to choose a daily stone out of the bag. This stone will become my meditative companion (and photo subject) for the day.
